WHAT IS R2Online

Research on Research Online is a working group comprised of Netquest and RECSM (Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology) that belongs to Pompeu Fabra’s University.

R2Online arises from the desire to help companies improve the reliability of online surveying.

R2Online combines two great strengths:

-RECSM’s reliability and experience.

-The capacity of the panel and testing technology provided by Netquest.

This combined work is aimed to develop new areas of cooperation in order to investigate methodological aspects that can help both sides: Netquest to optimize its online fieldwork and also the RECSM to continue moving forward on their valuable research.


R2Online’s main objective is to create research projects that allow to improve the reliability and representativeness of samples by learning how to avoid potential response bias.

Besides Research on Research Online projects and courtesy of Melanie Revilla, in this section will be published capsules concerning different themes studied by RECSM. Such kind of articles are meant to complement Research on Research Online projects, showing very detailed methodological aspects about data collection through surveys.

  1. RECSM Logo


    RECSM, a research group that belongs to Pompeu Fabra’s University (Barcelona), is a working group focused on research about the questionnaires design, evaluation of survey questions, strategies and supervision of fieldwork, interviewer effects and data analysis, among other topics. In addition, the RECSM provides its advice and expertise in survey research to academics, governments and those traders who need it.

  1. Prof. Willem E. Saris

    Willem E. Saris:

    He is sociologist by Utecht University and Ph.D. in Social Sciences by Amsterdam University. He has devoted his professional life to know more about the structural equation modeling methodology and survey reseach; fields in which he has published extensively. After a long and distinguished career, he is currently senior researcher at the Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RECSM) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

  2. Melanie Revilla

    Melanie Revilla:

    Graduated in statistics and economics at the Ecole nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique '(ENSAE-Paritech, Paris, France) and Master in Economics from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (GSE). She received her Ph.D. from the UPF in 2012. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RECSM) and associate professor at the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF, Barcelona).

  3. Bruno Arpino

    Bruno Arpino:

    Ph.D. in Applied Statistics by the University of Florence (Italy) in 2008 and awarded the best thesis in Applied Statistics 2007/2008 for his study entitled: "Causal Inference for Observational studies extended to a multi-level setting. The impact of fertility on poverty in Vietnam. "He is currently deputy director of Research and Expertise Centre for Survey Methodology (RECSM).

  1. Germán Loewe

    Germán Loewe:

    PhD in Mathematical Economics and Research in Economic Theory of decisions by the University of Barcelona. He has developed a profuse academic as author of several publications and as professor in mathematics and decision theory and strategy. Currently, is the President and CEO of Netquest, and AEDEMO and ESOMAR member.

  2. Carlos Ochoa

    Carlos Ochoa:

    Graduated in telecommunications engineering, he has acted as a consultant, salesman and product manager, in relation to technology services development in companies such as Sony and Auna. Currently, he is marketing director at Netquest; head of Netquest Panel.

  3. Salvador Masdeu

    Salvador Masdeu:

    Graduated in sociology by the University of Barcelona, he has developed his career in the market research field. He has worked in Spanish and Dutch companies since 2003. He collaborates since 2008 with Netquest, currently performing tasks of product management.
